To ensure continued access to their grants, beneficiaries can still use their SASSA gold cards at major retail chains like Shoprite, Pick n Pay, Spar, and Boxer, as well as any ATM nationwide, before the February 28 deadline. The Democratic Alliance (DA) has expressed concern about the ongoing transition, stating that it has been chaotic and has caused undue stress and financial hardship for beneficiaries.DA spokesperson on social development Bridget Masango called on Minister of Social Development Sisisi Tolashe to account to Parliament regarding the number of beneficiaries still reliant on gold cards, the number who have switched to black cards or opened accounts at reliable banks, and the impact of the verification system suspension on legitimate SRD grant recipients. Masango also urged the Minister to ensure that no gold cards expire before all beneficiaries have been successfully replaced and to introduce interim verification measures to prevent deserving recipients from being left without their grants.
