Sanco KZN challenges ANC
This comes as the ANC, particularly in KwaZulu-Natal, made a bold decision to not recognise any of Sanco’s waring factions that are currently involved in a legal battle for the control of the organisation.
This week, provincial secretary Richard Mkhungo told City Press that while Sanco’s standing resolution was to rally behind the ANC, it was prepared to take a different political path if the governing party continued to use its current divisions to exclude it from the alliance. We don’t need recognition. We are independent and a partner of the ANC, but if our partner does not work with us, we [will] move forward.
“We are going to call our own meetings and decide what we do. We are not an NGO and are not prohibited to contest [elections]. Currently, they [the ANC] are working with the opposition parties in coalitions throughout the province.”“The SACP is also considering contesting the elections, so the whole alliance may have to go through a process [disintegration] and eventually work as a coalition. We support the ANC now, but if it does not recognise us, it must be very careful,” he warned.
“I think there is a psychoanalytical issue generally with Zuma. It seems he has an insatiable desire for power. To have climbed to the apex of the ANC and still have desires of leading the party at national level shows a degree of psychological sickness if you like.” Whether you like it or not Zuma has a huge support base in KwaZulu-Natal and he has experience of South African life and politics.
