The fields would accompany a cricket stadium planned for 2024
The San Jose Earthquakes may build three soccer fields at the Santa Clara County Fairgrounds if they cut a deal with the county that allows them to also build two practice fields for the team.
All five fields would take up a little more than 18 acres of the fairgrounds’ southwestern corner on Umbarger Road close to the Chavez Supermarket and Best Western Hotel in the city’s Spartan Keyes neighborhood. The site is currently being used by a variety of trucking, landscaping and recycling businesses whose licenses expire at the end of the year.
Abe Andrade, executive director of the county fairgrounds, called the Earthquakes’ proposal a “positive” one for the area.
