The South African Democratic Teachers Union (SADTU) acknowledges the historic matric pass rate, crediting the success to dedicated educators. While celebrating the achievement, SADTU voices concerns about potential budget cuts at the Department of Basic Education and their impact on future academic performance.
JOHANNESBURG - The South African Democratic Teachers Union ( SADTU ) attributes the country's historic matric pass rate to the dedication of educators. SADTU , the nation's largest teaching union, emphasizes that this remarkable achievement wouldn't have been possible without the commitment of teachers. SADTU spokesperson, Nomusa Cembi, states, 'As SADTU , we are overjoyed with the results and join the nation in celebrating.
The honor belongs to the learners who persevered through 12 years of schooling and bravely sat for these examinations. We also extend our deepest gratitude to the teachers who imparted knowledge, inspired, and nurtured these learners.' Cembi further highlights, 'We firmly believe this outcome is a testament to the tireless efforts of both teachers and learners. They dedicated countless hours, working seven days a week during school holidays, evenings, and study camps, ensuring we achieved these exceptional results.' Looking ahead to the 2025 academic year, Cembi expresses concern regarding the looming budget cuts at the Department of Basic Education. 'Despite the celebratory nature of these positive results, we are apprehensive about the austerity measures we face. We fear that if these austerity measures persist, we may not see an improvement in these marks next year.
