Detectives are investigating a suspicious death after a man’s body was found in the bushes in the 200-block of Beach Drive Wednesday morning.
Oak Bay Police Chief Mark Fisher said the body of an adult male was discovered in the bushes just off the roadway around 8 a.m. by two people out for a morning walk.Oak Bay police asked Saanich detectives for help in their investigation, said Fisher. They arrived and expanded the crime scene area. By 9:30 a.m., Beach Drive between King George Terrace and Monterey Avenue was closed, blocked by police cars and two firetrucks and sealed off with yellow crime tape.
By mid-morning, forensic identification officers were searching for evidence. A white tent had been erected and a command centre truck was parked on Beach Drive. “Once we deem that it warrants detectives being on scene, that brings a different level of attention and investigation and we felt it warranted that at the time. That’s why they’re on scene,” said the chief.“We’re a couple of hours into the investigation. It would be very premature for me to speculate on that,” said Fisher. “We’re at a very preliminary stage.”
