Controversial South African Tourism (SAT) acting CEO, Themba Khumalo, has resigned from Tourism and has accepted an international job offer, City Press has learned.

Controversial South African Tourism acting CEO, Themba Khumalo, has resigned from Tourism and has accepted an international job offer, City Press has learned.

According to a source close to the situation, Khumalo tendered his resignation on Friday after four years in the organisation.He has resigned in both his position as a chief marketing officer and also Tourism SA’s acting chief marketing officer. He had been with the organisation for four years, and he spent the last 17 months as acting CEO.

In a live broadcast, he announced:"The money invested in tourism isn't the same money required for energy. It's not the same amount of money that's required to fix potholes. There are other departments which are dedicated to that and are given that mandate by legislation." His resignation comes three months after SA Tourism board members Enver Duminy, Ravi Nadasen, and Rosemary Anderson resigned from the board also with immediate effects.
