Women 100 Backstroke Multi-Class S14 & S14 - 10:53Women 50 Breaststroke Multi-Class S14 - S15 - 11:30Tatjana Smith showed she means business as she pipped Lara van Niekerk for the women's 50m breaststroke title at the SA Swimming Championships in Gqeberha.
Olympic gold medallist Smith was in sublime form as she touched the wall in 30.09 behind Van Niekerk. Van Niekerk had to hand over the 50m title to her Tshwane team-mate, finishing second in 30.16 with Simone Moll taking bronze . Commonwealth Games medallist Erin Gallagher swam a personal and national record to win the women's 50m butterfly in 25.59.
Meanwhile, 19-year-old Pieter Coetze continued from his bronze medal at February's World Championships in Doha as he won the 50m backstroke final, touching the wall in 24:54.All systems go on Day 1 of the SA National Swimming Champs 2024!!????
