A person fell into a “trench” outside the Chateau Laurier early Tuesday morning and had to be rescued by the Ottawa Fire Service’s rope rescue team.
At about 6 a.m., firefighters headed to the area of Rideau Street and Mackenzie Ave., signaling in a tweet that someone had “fallen down a trench approx 10 ft.” in the area.
An image posted to the fire service’s social media account showed seven officers using pulleys, rope and a stretcher suspended from a ladder truck to lift a man out of the “trench,” which is a small space bordering the Chateau Laurier’s east side between a decorative stone balustrade and the hotel wall.
In the early morning of August 2, 2022 Ottawa Fire used rope rescue equipment to bring an individual safely out of a ‘trench’ near the Chateau Laurier HotelOttawa paramedics were on the scene and provided patient care but did not transport the victim to the hospital, a spokesperson said.It was the second rope rescue performed by OFS in less than 24 hours.
