That’s what defensive end Lorenzo Mauldin IV told the Ottawa Redblacks offensive and defensive linemen before Sunday’s game against the Argos. Maybe that belief played a factor in Ottawa’s 23-13 win, stopping a six-game winless streak to open the season. And, in doing so, they put themselves right back into the East Division playoff race — Toronto is in first place with three wins, Hamilton and Montreal both have two. So everybody is within striking distance.
“I was telling somebody my steak tonight is going to taste like steak, not chicken,” said Mauldin IV, who had a key sack and a forced fumble. “We have to build on it. We know what we can do; now we just have to do it.” After a successful coach’s challenge by the Redblacks — which wiped out a catch and first down by Kurleigh Gittens Jr. at the Ottawa 25, the Argos settled for a 42-yard field goal by Boris Bede.
The Argos made it 13-6 — with a 32-yard field goal in the final minute of the half — after a 15-play, 71-yard drive that ate up a lot of clock. The Redblacks tied the game when Evans rolled right to buy some time and lofted a pass to Acklin, who was open in the end zone.
