“What they don’t realize is I'm a veteran, straight East Texas,” Traylor said. “I’m good to go, boys. They didn’t get me.”After a 41-7 win against Rice on Saturday that earned UTSA the regular season crown in Conference USA and the right to host the league title game in two weeks, the Roadrunners rejoiced with the group of fans who braved the elements, raising the black championship trophy in the air.
“When we were on the sideline, we were warm,” quarterback Frank Harris said. “That got those guys motivated. Coach Traylor said, ‘If you want to stay warm, get out there and score quickly, and get back under the heaters.’ I think those guys really took that to heart.” With TJ McMahon out and Wiley Green leaving due to an injury in the first quarter, Rice turned to Shawqi Itraish and AJ Padgett at quarterback, mixing in a few direct snaps to running back Juma Otoviano.
During last week’s 51-7 rout against Louisiana Tech, backup quarterback Landry Lyddy started for the Bulldogs in place of Parker McNeil and completed 14 of 26 passes for 138 yards with a touchdown and two interceptions.After forcing just eight turnovers in the first nine games of the season, the Roadrunners have come up with eight takeaways in the past two weeks.
