Members of the Labourers’ International Union of North American Local 527 approved the deal offered by the employer-side group — the National Capital Road Builders Association — during a vote Sunday held at the Ottawa Conference and Event Centre, both sides confirmed to this newspaper.

The agreement, the union said, comes with a $7 pay hike for members spread out across three years, the length of its typical bargaining agreement. The offer had been tentatively accepted by the union, pending a vote by members, on Tuesday, ending a wave of picketing at major construction employers.LiUNA Local 527 workers are involved in construction projects for roads, bridges, water and sewer, curbs and sidewalks, buildings, demolition, light rail construction and more.

The strike was having an impact, most notably delaying the planned replacement of the Booth Street bridge on Highway 417.The provincial Ministry of Transportation said it was working with contractor Kiewit-Dufferin Midtown Partnership to come up with a new date.
