Pirates went behind ten minutes before the half-time break through a penalty scored by Sphesihle Maduna for Usuthu.Kermit Erasmus restored parity for the Buccaneers on the stroke of halftime while Nkosinathi Sibisi had a penalty for saved on the hour-mark by shot-stopper Veli Mothwa.

"The game didn't start as we expected to start with it, they played quite direct straight to the two strikers, we had some problems dealing with the second balls," Riveiro said on SuperSport TV after the match. "It's true that the beginning of the game was not in the intensity that we were supposed to play here tonight, we just reacted straight after the goal," he said.
