Real Madrid manager Carlo Ancelotti expressed hope for avoiding Manchester City in the Champions League playoff draw after securing a 3-0 victory against Brest. The reigning champions will face either Celtic or Manchester City in February's two-legged playoff, with the second leg at home. Ancelotti acknowledged the potential difficulty of facing City, stating that it would be a tough challenge for both teams. Meanwhile, Manchester City secured their playoff spot with a 3-1 win against Club Brugge, featuring goals from Mateo Kovacic, Savinho, and an own goal.
Real Madrid hope to avoid Manchester City in the next round, manager Carlo Ancelotti said after they beat Brest 3-0 on Wednesday to reach the Champions League playoff where they will be seeded.
“Well, we have to wait for the draw. In theory, if we draw City, it will be tougher for both of us. But you always have to wait for the draw and see. It was a good match. We played well. We showed a good version of ourselves. The team was solid and serious. We’re content and happy. It’s a pity we didn’t wake up to this competition a bit earlier. But it is what it is and we are happy to be at this level at this time.
The victory in their league-phase finale secured Pep Guardiola’s men a spot in the two-legged playoff knockout round.
