Ramokgopa says government wants to make electricity affordable for the poor
Kgosientsho Ramokgopa , the country’s electricity and energy minister, on Monday, gave an update on what the ministry described as the"energy and electricity complex", while also emphasising government's commitment to ensuring energy affordability.
Ramokgopa set out again to explain the issue that has put a question mark on the work done by Nxumalo’s team.He explained that while there hadn’t been load shedding for over 124 days, there was still the niggling issue of load reduction. Ramokgopa noted that these explanations offer little consolation to the end consumer, as the net result is the same.
“There’s been an exponential rise in the cost of electricity. Our electricity pricing plan needs to kick in,” he said.sets out to “improve social equity by addressing the requirements of the low-income and enhancing efficiency and competitiveness to provide low-cost and high-quality inputs,” amongst other things.
