Monday morning's crucial talks will focus on Ramaphosa's political future following the release of a Section 89 independent panel report on the theft of foreign currency from the president's Phala Phala farm in Limpopo.
“It is up to the NEC to which I'm accountable to, to take whatever decision,” Ramaphosa said on Sunday.Ramaphosa spoke to the media outside Nasrec, south of Joburg, where he was asked to recuse himself from a national working committee meeting. The party's NWC met to discuss the report after the executive committee on Friday said that the matter should be discussed by the senior structure first.
“It's always best when a matter affects a person personally should be discussed in their absence,” Ramaphosa continued. “And that's exactly what led to my recusal. To allow the members of the NEC to have a thorough going discussion on the report without me being there, so that are free to express themselves openly and as thoroughly as possible without fear or favour."
