Ramaphosa apologises to voters, vows councillors will do better
Before Ramaphosa spoke, alliance partners Cosatu and the SACP also pledged their support to the ANC through speeches by Cosatu president Zingiswa Losi and SACP general secretary Blade Nzimande. Although Cosatu has not seen eye-to-eye with the ANC-led government over a number of issues – including salaries for civil servants – the labour federation decided that there was no better alternative to the ANC in these elections.
The ANC also conceded in its manifesto that the country’s electricity supply is unstable, that many municipalities are not financially viable, and there is inadequate maintenance and replacement of infrastructure: “Many municipalities are confronted by corruption and mismanagement which divert crucial resources needed to meet the needs of the people.
The city has been led by the DA for the past 5 years despite many unsuccessful attempts by the ANC to regain control of the metro.Speaking moments before the manifesto launch, ANC deputy secretary-general Jessie Duarte said there was no doubt that they would be able to woo voters.At the moment we have come here to Tshwane because we need to win the city back. I have no doubt our manifesto will have a major impact.
