The public are being warned"it is an offence to interfere with a carcass".More than 200 pilot whales have been washed ashore on Tasmania's west cost, days after 14 sperm whales were found on another Australian beach.
Rescuers from the Marine Conservation Program were heading to the area. Beached whales often die from dehydration, collapsing under their own weight or drowning when high tide covers their blowhole.David Midson, general manager of the West Coast Council, urged people to stay away from the beach.
