Western Cape municipalities will receive almost R290 million to repair flood damage.Among the projects that will be funded, are repairs to a water pipeline in George.Local Government MEC Anton Bredell said the funds would be assigned to municipalities to repair flood damage from last year.
The lion's share of the funding will be allocated to the Garden Route District Municipality, with a budget of more than R264 million. The projects that will be funded include repairs to the 600mm main raw water pipeline from George to water treatment works.that the flooding led to the closure of 10 schools, as well as several private and provincial medical facilities.In Oudtshoorn, projects will be focused on storm water and road repairs, mostly in informal settlements.
