Prince Edward Island announced it would make Monday a statutory holiday for all provincially regulated employees. New Brunswick, Nova Scotia and Newfoundland and Labrador said they would close government offices and schools but make the holiday optional for private businesses. Ontario said it would not recognize Monday as a holiday but invite the population to observe a moment of silence at 1 p.m.
