The report highlighted issues including missing financial records

A damning report published earlier this year found "urgent action" was needed to prevent "inappropriate financial activity" at Nottingham City Council. Despite the seriousness of this report, the public and even the council's leader has not seen the full, unredacted version of it. Nottinghamshire Live now calls for some long overdue transparency.

Nottinghamshire Live had submitted a Freedom of Information request asking for the full EY report and in its response on September 7, Nottingham City Council decided that the public interest was outweighed by the "harm" that disclosing the full report would cause. We are therefore in a situation in which a taxpayer-funded authority is refusing to publish the full version of a taxpayer-funded report, which could ultimately impact taxpayer-funded services.

But reacting to the council's latest refusal to publish the document, the Nottingham Independents and Independent Group said: "Given the long history of preventing public access to documents, from Robin Hood Energy to Nottingham Castle... it is disappointing but unsurprising that the Ernst & Young report remains out of public view.

The summary of the report certainly did not downplay its findings, but that is all the more reason why the full version should be released to the public. If the redacted version of this report was so damning, what are we not seeing?
