Province ends supervision of Peel public school board. Trustees are back in charge, two-and-a-half-years after ministry took control of board amid concerns about racism and dysfunction.
In the Jan. 3 letter to the minister, Rodrigues said changes he’s made to the senior administration team “will help to ensure that the necessary leadership, policies, and practices are in place” to better serve the community. They will also provide staff with “work environments that are respectful, fair, inclusive, and better represent the communities served by the PDSB.”
“Parents and community leaders will no longer tolerate dysfunction at the board and will be watching closely,” wrote Rodrigues. “Parents can rest assured that the Ministry of Education will continue to ensure all students feel safe and respected within our schools,” said Lee. Advocacy Peel, a community group working to combat racism and discrimination in education, is disappointed with the end to supervision.
