According to PRASA regional manager Raymond Maseko, significant progress has been made in restoring train service in the City.
The Passenger Rail Agency of South Africa says it is on track to resume operations on Cape Town’s Central Line.
According to PRASA Regional Manager Raymond Maseko, significant progress has been made in restoring train service in the City.‘When we started on the 7th of July 2020, we only had 19 train sets and 13 train stations that were operational. At the moment, of the 121 train stations that we have in the Western Cape, only 11 are not working,’ he told‘That is from Philippi to Kapteinsklip and from Stock Road to Chris Hani. That is all on the central line.
‘First, we increased our internal staff from about 700 and now we have about 1 300. We also have about six contractors that we have hired to bolster the security that we have.’ Yesterday, Minister of Transport Sindisiwe Chikunga opened the southern corridor between Fish Hoek and Cape Town Central. To date, PRASA has reopened 31 of the 40 corridors:
