Tucked away in a hidden gem of the CBD lies the new home of the much-loved Woodies Burgers.

A longtime fan-favourite within the halaal foodie scene rises once more as it settles into its spot at the SALT Food Market in The Box building on Lower Burg Street in Cape Town’s city centre.Playfully claiming to serve Cape Town’s ‘Best Damn Burgers’, Woodies offers the quintessence of messy deliciousness. From a spicy chilli burger to a succulent chicken burger smothered in cheese, there’s something juicy for everyone – with vegetarian options too.

Once a star vendor at the V&A Waterfront Food Market, Woodies Burgers could regularly be seen empty long before the market’s closing time – not for a lack of customers, but because they had already sold out on all their burgers. A while later, Woodies packed up shop at the V&A and relocated to a stand-alone spot in the heart of the Southern Suburbs, where it remained for half a decade before bidding ‘so long, for now’ to its customers at the end of March this year.Famous for its hand-pressed pure ground beef patties, Woodies’ Rondebosch and Century City branches were often chock-a-block full of hungry locals drooling at the smell of their juicy burgers being made before their eyes.

We have a hunch that its new home at the SALT Food Market will be no different. While you can go small with a single beef or chicken patty, you can also eat for the week with their Collosus burger featuring four 100-gram beef patties – if you’re feeling daring enough.
