Speaking at the end of the 50th Social Week of Italian Catholics in Trieste, the pope invited Catholics to assume their responsibilities.
"We cannot be content with a marginal, or private faith," he said."This means not so much demanding to be heard, but above all having the courage to make proposals for justice and peace in the public debate. "We have something to say, but not to defend privileges. We have to be a voice that denounces and proposes in a society that is often voiceless and where too many have no voice. So many, so many do not have a voice".
The 87-year-olf Argentine pontiff underlined that this political love"is a form of charity that allows politics to live up to its responsibilities and to get out of polarisations, which immiserate and do not help to understand and face the challenges".
