Pope Francis made history on Friday by becoming the first pontiff to take part in a G7 summit. He was welcomed by Italian Premier Giorgia Meloni after arriving by helicopter at the Puglia resort of Borgo Egnazia, where the summit is taking place.

"Happy to meet you again," said Francis as he got off the helicopter, to which Meloni replied:"it's a great, great pleasure to have you here. Your presence if a great gift." Francis is addressing a session on AI at the summit, and having 10 bilateral meetings with world leaders. The bilateral encounters include ones with US President Joe Biden, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky, French President Emmanuel Macron and Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan, the Holy See said.
Among the other meetings are those with Canada's Justin Trudeau, India's Narendra Modi, Brazil's Luis Inacio Lula da Silva, Algeria's Abdelmadjid Tebboune and International Monetary Fund Managing Director Kristalina Georgieva.
