Pirates warned: 'Rooney will want to win, even if it's pre-season'
With Wayne Rooney set to take charge of his first match as Plymouth Argyle manager against Orlando Pirates on Friday, one of his assistants has insisted the English side are looking to win the game.
In May, the club appointed Manchester United's all-time top goalscorer Wayne Rooney as their latest head coach on a three-year deal until June 2027. The 38-year-old's assistant head coach Pete Shuttleworth has since warned that Rooney wants to win every game, including his first friendly against Bucs. "He's never going to go and say, 'This is just about minutes'.
"So it will be nice to see that against an opposition and see whether the lads are taking in what we are asking them to do and trying that.
