A ''loving grandad'' and dad-of-five has been jailed for three years after he arranged to meet up with a supposed 15-year-old girl online for paid sex. Alan Fitzgerald, 59, replied to a fake online escort advertisement, set up by Cleveland Police to pick up a 'hot teen girl' followed by a picture of an 18-year-old woman.
Fitzgerald, of Elmfield Place in Newton Aycliffe, pleaded guilty to attempting to arrange the commission of a child sex offence, at a hearing in July. Robert Mochrie, defending, told the court that his client had answered an advert "for what he believed were girls of legal age. The court heard that he had felt unable to return to work as a wood machinist, since he was arrested. Judge Simon Jackson said that no evidence of child pornography or meetings with other children, had been found on Fitzgerald's laptop, when police examined it, "but there was a lot of contact with adult escort agencies and massage services."
