Pedestrian traffic in downtown Toronto has surpassed pre\u002Dpandemic levels

While that number isn’t a huge shock, considering how much Toronto has opened up in the last year, the fact that the numbers were 11% higher than in the same period in 2019 was notable. On Boxing Day alone, 190,000 pedestrians walked along Yonge St. between College and Queen Sts. That was up 150% over 2021, according to the BIA. New Year’s Eve traffic was up 62%.
There were 60 million pedestrians recorded on Toronto’s city streets in 2022, more than double 2020’s total of less than 30 million pedestrians.re than 500,000 people walked along Yonge St. in downtown Toronto on Thanksgiving weekend, up even from the pre-pandemic 2019 levels, as well.
