Panyaza Lesufi re-elected as Gauteng premier, with DA backing
Lesufi was elected unopposed, with his nomination seconded by the DA.Panyaza Lesufi has been re-elected as premier of Gauteng . Former arts and culture MEC in Gauteng , Marakane Mosupyoe, was elected speaker unopposed. The MK Party seconded her nomination.
Seat allocation in the Gauteng legislature is as follows: ANC - 28, DA - 22, EFF - 11, MK - 8, ActionSA - 3, FF Plus - 2, PA - 2. Rise Mzansi, BOSA, IFP, ACDP all have one seat. Proceedings in the Gauteng legislature kicked off to a turbulent start as the entire ANC caucus arrived late. This delayed the sitting, which was meant to start at 10:00. An hour later, proceedings had yet to start.
Former EFF MP Naledi Chirwa was also among those sworn in. Chirwa's name previously appeared on the EFF's list for the National Assembly, where she was number 200.
