African National Congress (ANC) chairperson in Gauteng and former Education MEC Panyaza Lesufi has been re-elected as Premier.
PANYAZA LESUFI RE-ELECTED GAUTENG PREMIERBefore the election, Gauteng judge president Dunstan Mlambo presided over the official swear-in ceremony of all members of the provincial legislature , in the chambers in Johannesburg., no political party achieved an outright majority in the 2024 National and Provincial Elections. Support for the ANC in Gauteng declined from 50% in 2019 to just 36%.
He has been a member of the ANC’s Provincial Executive Committee since 2007 and served in the NEC Education Sub-committee. In July 2018, he was elected as Deputy Chairperson of the ANC in Gauteng. He assumed the position of Chairperson of the ANC in Gauteng on 26 June 2022 at the provincial conference held in Benoni, Ekurhuleni.
