The Paarl Royals extended their lead at the top of the SA20 standings with a thrilling six-wicket victory over the Durban Super Giants. The Super Giants were eliminated from playoff contention with the loss, while the Royals secured their seventh win in eight matches.

Paarl Royals secured a thrilling six-wicket victory over Durban's Super Giants at Boland Park on Monday night, cementing their position at the top of the SA20 standings. The Royals, who have already qualified for the playoffs, extended their lead to seven points, while the Super Giants were eliminated from contention after suffering their sixth loss in nine matches. The Super Giants got off to a disastrous start, losing opener Joe Root to spinner Prenelan Subrayen on the very first ball.

However, they rallied thanks to a 91-run partnership between Lhuan-dre Pretorius (43 off 29 balls) and Rubin Hermann (59 off 51). Despite a late surge from Durban, Paarl Royals clinched the win with one ball to spare, thanks to a six from Dayyaan Galiem off the second-to-last ball. Earlier, the Super Giants, batting first after winning the toss, managed to post 143/7 in their 20 overs. They experienced a slow start, reaching 33/3 in the seventh over, but Kane Williamson (45 off 36) and Marcus Stoinis (55 not out off 40) led a recovery, adding 53 runs for the fourth wicket. Paarl Royals' bowlers, led by spinner Bjorn Fortuin (2/20) and teenage fast bowler Kwena Maphaka (2/22), kept the Super Giants in check, laying the groundwork for their victory. The Super Giants will conclude their campaign against the Super Kings at the Wanderers on Saturday
