That night, Yu was home with his wife Marilyn Yap-Yu. He realized there was an opportunity to go back to the centre and help out. There was some leftover food from a parish picnic that could be served at the centre. The parish also had electricity, so there was the ability to prepare hot meals. It was then that Yu's wife reminded him that the next day was his birthday and that he needed to find time to go to church.
Yu and Soriano said it's a nice feeling to help people during their time for need. Soriano added that for Filipinos, it is"in their blood" to help others, especially during severe weather events like hurricanes, which are more common in that country. The following morning by 10:30 a.m., at least 75 people got coffee or tea and breakfast. As more people showed up, breakfast was extended to later in the morning.
