Green MLA Hannah Bell says her reasons for not reoffering were largely personal. She also says a conversation needs to be had about the overwhelming expectations placed on MLAs in P.E.I. Stu Neatby • The GuardianGreen MLA Hannah Bell says one of the reasons she is not running as a candidate in the upcoming provincial election is the high expectations placed on elected members in P.E.I.
Bell will continue to serve as MLA for Charlottetown-Belvedere until the next election, which will occur sometime in 2023. “I feel like I have made a space that wasn't there before for people to see that it can look different, that you can be an activist and a politician at the same time. And that you can come from a space that isn't traditional," Bell said.
“No, not at all. I feel quite confident that I would have made a good attempt at holding my seat should I have decided to run," Bell said.Bell said she has pushed back on some of the expectations of MLAs during her tenure. She stopped going to wakes and funerals for constituents in her district unless she personally knew the individual.
