A new study has exposed the financial burden of childcare payments, with now one in four parents saying that up to 75% of their salaries are used to cover costs.

The weekly average cost of an after-school club is £62.13, while the weekly average price of a childminder is £71.06.. Baby budgets have been hit by steep rises in goods such as nappies and formula milk too.The billboard campaign is the group’s ‘ultimate cry for help’

This means demand for places is growing – and the price for an enviable daycare spot is going up with it. Professor Lauren Stewart, Professor of Psychology at Goldsmiths, University of London, said: ‘Research has shown that a baby’s cry is impossible to ignore, whether we’re parents or not.‘The sound’s high pitch, long duration, and varied utterances are particularly associated with strong aversive and physical responses, including increased heart rate and sweating.’

Nearly every mother surveyed said they feel the government isn’t doing enough to support families during the cost-of-living crunch.Prime Minister Rishi Sunak is facing pressure to overhaul the childcare system – something promised by his predecessor, Liz Truss.
