There are four main reasons HMRC could reduce or stop Child Benefit payments

HM Revenue and Customs recently announced the new weekly payment rates for people claiming Child Benefit or Guardian’s Allowance, which will come into effect in April. It is a means-tested benefit, so household income below £50,000 and savings do not impact the amount a person receives and you do not need to have paid any National Insurance contributions to get it.

However, if your Child Benefit payment amount changes and you’re not sure why, money experts at Income Tax have shared four possible reasons, including how today could be the last payment date for some parents or guardians. If your child stays in education or training but then decides to leave, you will continue to get Child Benefit until whichever date after their 16th birthday comes first:
