Don Gravelle says he’s running to end wasteful spending by city hall

After reading an article in one of our local media sources, I decided that change is needed in our city. This article was saying how our mayor and council spent hundreds of thousands of our hard-earned taxpayers’ dollars on consultants, then did not even listen to them.

I've since come to find out that consultants have made millions off the city in the last eight years. That money could have been put towards roads, helping the homeless get off the streets and back into society, cleaning up the downtown, or even to pay down debt. As you can likely guess, getting specifics on exactly how much has been spent is not an easy task; I have not been successful in trying to obtain this information.

Sure, I can request a freedom of information and wait months and spend a lot of money getting copies of all those files, however, the election is too close, and time is not on my side. In addition to the fleeting time, I have sent Mayor Brian Bigger an email requesting that information but have yet to receive a response.

As mayor and council, we are entrusted to make these decisions. One thing that is crystal clear to me though, is that we should not be wasting your tax dollars in this manner. Don Gravelle is running to be mayor of Greater Sudbury in the October municipal election.
