OpenAI has made its web search feature available to all ChatGPT users, previously exclusive to paid subscribers. The feature, announced during OpenAI's festive season promotions, blends natural language querying with access to up-to-date information like sports scores, news, and stock quotes. Users can either have ChatGPT search the web for them based on their request or manually search using a web search icon. OpenAI also introduced an optimized mobile version of the search feature and an advanced voice mode.

The new feature was initially only available to paid subscribers, but was rolled out to all during OpenAI’s festive season announcements. At the time it was a feature made available to paid subscribers, but the company is seemingly in the holiday spirit as it has announced that the feature is. While it is available to all, strictly speaking you will still need an account and be logged in order to access the feature.

Along with rolling out wider availability, the announcement also saw an “optimised” version of Search being created for mobile devices making use of ChatGPT, as well as an advanced voice mode being added to the mix. These will be accompanied by additional information, such as ratings, user reviews, operating hours, and user-taken images, although it is not abundantly clear where this additional information is being pulled from. Should you click on a desired location, in-app navigation will be accessible too.

Lastly the advanced voice mode is said to offer up-to-date information, which has sometimes been an issue depending on which version of the ChatGPT model you are using, but it should be pointed out that this specific aspect is restricted to paid subscribers only.
