Onyango’s Sundowns Options Amid Retirement Talk
Mamelodi Sundowns are understood to be planning for the future, with indications that veteran goalkeeper Denis Onyango has been earmarked for a new role within the club. Siya sources have revealed that the club is believed to be finalising where 39-year-old will fit in at Chloorkop after his contract expires.
"Last season could have been Denis Onyango's final playing season, but with Ricardo Goss potentially going on another loan to SuperSport United, management and the technical team agreed that they still need Onyango for at least one more season as a player. For now, it seems this might be his final contract as a player, according to the agreement, but anything could still change,” the source informed the Siya crew.
"His options seem clear. He could either take up a coaching position in the academy structures or join people like Sugar Mabunda as the team's ambassador. This decision will likely be made after the end of the current one-year contract next June. He appears to be happy at the club, and the management seems satisfied with him, so it probably won't be a big problem to make that decision. But for now, he has a playing contract until June 2025," the source added.
