Arrowe Park Hospital said parking for staff is free and charges are only applicable to patients and visitors
Staff at a Merseyside hospital claim they are being forced to "pay to work" after managers told them there weren't enough fobs for everyone to access the free staff car park.
"Suddenly one day the barriers were down, and we received information from the hospital that any time after 12 hours, we would get charged £10. We work long shifts, so if we're working three to four days a week, we're basically paying £30 or £40 a week to work." The nurse, who did not want to be named, said: "I have a young son, and if I was to take him to nursery for 7.30am, take my car back home and then get public transport to work, I wouldn't get in until at least 9am. I start at 7.45am, so there's no way I can possibly take public transport. There's a lot of other nurses in my situation, taking children to child minders and nurseries.
A Wirral University Teaching Hospital spokesperson said there had been no changes to staff car parking, and that the new charges applied to car parks for patients and visitors, not staff.
