Former VBS Mutual Bank chairperson Tshifhiwa Matodzi's 70-page affidavit went viral online on Thursday, just a day after the Pretoria High Court sentenced him to an effective' 15 years in prisonexplosive affidavit, which details the corruption and looting of over R2.2 billion from the now-defunct bank.

Matodzi pleaded guilty to 33 counts, including corruption, theft, fraud, money laundering and racketeering activities in contravention of the Prevention of Organised Crime Act. This guilty plea was part of a plea agreement with the NPA under section 105A of the Criminal Procedure Act. Mhaga said that the NPA was considering its legal options and conducting a thorough investigation to hold accountable those responsible for the leak.The leaking of confidential documents in high-profile and complex corruption cases like VBS compromises the hard work of investigators and prosecutors.Matodzi's affidavit provides significant insights into the operations of VBS and poses serious trouble for the remaining accused in the case.

Matodzi further alleges that former VBS executives engaged in widespread corruption. He names VBS CFO Philip Truter, CEO Andile Ramavhunga, Solly Maposa and treasurer Phophi Mukhodobwane as his co-conspirators, all of whom have been charged in connection with VBS corruption.Public Interest SA, an NGO, praised the NPA and Hawks for securing Matodzi’s conviction. They described the 15-year prison sentence as a pivotal moment in South Africa’s fight against corruption.
