SMRT first alerted the public about the disruption between Boon Lay and Queenstown stations at 9.52am.

About 850 commuters onboard a stalled train near Clementi station were safely detrained onto the tracks and guided back to the platform.A makeshift information counter was also set up at the Clementi MRT Station after the gates to the gantries of the station were closed.

While the train was being withdrawn, a power trip was detected at 9.25am, causing trains on the EWL between Queenstown and Boon Lay stations to stall. “More time may be required for repair works. During engineering hours tonight, SMRT and LTA will make further assessment whether passenger service can resume on Sept 26,” said LTA.

It said station staff have been deployed to assist commuters. There were also in-train and station announcements to keep commuters informed.UPDATE on the power fault on the East-West Line at 12.20pm: A KHI train that has been in service for over 35 years...Free regular and bridging bus services are available between Boon Lay and Queenstown stations, and commuters are advised to take alternative lines, SMRT said, adding: “We are sorry to affect your morning commute.

Many bridging buses arriving from Jurong East were packed to the brim. Passengers had to brave the rain while alighting from buses when it started pouring at around 11.45am. At Clementi, retiree Fathiah Sahdan was waiting to board a less crowded bus to get home. The 74-year-old said her lunch preparation would be delayed due to the long wait.Ms Yeo Rui Xuan at the Jurong East station felt that figuring out where to get on the bridging buses was a “messy” and “inconvenient” process, as there was no proper guidance, she said.
