Sobering report finds no health benefits to drinking
Their report covers low to high risk of alcohol, with two drinks a week considered low risk. That’s well below the last guideline, released in 2011. It suggested a maximum of 15 drinks per week for men and 10 drinks for women to reduce negative health effects.
According to the findings, every drink after that increases risk of stroke, heart disease, liver disease and seven types of cancers. Depression, anxiety and suicidal ideation, were associated with drinking, the report said. The research found no evidence of health benefits to drinking. It also cites the increased risk of injury and violence associated with alcohol use.
