Conception Bay South’s Callie Ash likes being in the middle of the action on the baseball field. The 11-year-old is one of 16 players from this province headed to the Baseball For All National tournament in Kentucky this summer. - ContributedCORNER BROOK, N.L. — Callie Ash and Avery Durdle have similar baseball origin stories.
“I joined to meet new friends and just be a part of a team,” said Durdle, who pitches and plays third base. The tournament is taking place July 12-16 during Women in Baseball Week in the United States and is a celebration of girls' baseball. Before heading to Kentucky, the farthest Durdle will have been for baseball is New Brunswick. She travelled there last summer as a part of a Newfoundland and Labrador provincial team.
