Newcastle United fans should ‘erect a statue’ of lawyer Nick DeMarco KC for his role in the Saudi Arabia-backed takeover.that DeMarco’s work on the takeover deal was ‘vital’. Newcastle faced a legal battle with the Premier League in 2021 to approve of their club takeover by the Saudi Arabian Public Investment Fund.
DeMarco headed the case for the Magpies and the deal eventually was given the green light in October 2021 after he helped to argue that the PIF were a separate entity to the Saudi government.agreeing to host two Saudi international fixturesMaguire backed the decision as ‘the right thing to do’ from a business point of view but believes Newcastle fans owe a lot to DeMarco’s legal work.
