Five local investors, including four real estate agents, bought site of former Manitou Park Public School for $100K; neighbours have voiced concerns about proposed construction
A proposed housing development in a quiet east-end neighbourhood is raising the ire of some neighbours, but the ownership group says it will bring much-needed housing to the Sault.
"All of our investors are local and investing in our own city, so we take pride in what is being done here," said Bud Jones, a local real estate agent who is among the five investors spearheading the proposed development. “It basically was an opportunity I saw that we could create some housing and hopefully release some pressure on the city right now that we have been seeing for three years.
“Our main objective is to bring in some seniors, we plan on building slab on grade, one-level living which would be ideally for seniors or people who are ready to downsize and don’t have a place to go, which is a big problem we have right now in the city.” “There are some people who didn’t love the concept, but I think they have the wrong impression about what we want to do,” said Jones. “When an opportunity to fix a pretty severe housing crisis is presented, we are trying to do our best to make it happen.”
“I would say there was about 60 people there, which is huge for an information session,” said Caputo.
