Concern is that changes to flying hours and rest periods for pilots is affecting the availability of air services
Concern is being voiced about the change in federal flying regulations that could impact the number of smaller aircraft flights into remote areas of Northern Ontario.
A statement from Transport Canada said all flight crew members experience the detrimental effects of fatigue, whether they are flying cargo or passenger planes, short-haul or long-haul. "The new flight duty time regulations implemented by Transport Canada have reduced air services in the north, hindering access to medical aid and increasing the burden on First Nations populations to access the services they need. Urgent action is needed from the federal Minister of Transport to rectify this ongoing crisis," said the news release from Mamakwa's office.
