A new BBC series hits the screens tonight, October 4, as former gang member and now published author Graeme Armstrong takes to the streets of Glasgow.
Street Gangs airs tonight at 10pm on BBC Scotland or you can find all episodes on BBC iPlayer. The new three episode series explores gang culture in Scotland with former 'young team' member, Graeme Armstrong taking to the streets of Glasgow as he dives into the minds of young gang members today to find out what life is like inside today's gangs.
Graeme is a now a best-selling author but was once a gang member from Airdrie, who once only saw three ways out of the culture: death, prison or redemption. During his time spent in and around crime, Graeme struggled with drug addiction, alcohol abuse, and violence - however, has now turned his life around and is best known for his debut novel, The Young Team, which has won numerous awards as well as Scots Language Awards 'Scots Book of the Year' in 2021.
In episode three Graeme heads to Wynford in Maryhill where he asks himself 'how do young team members turn their lives around? Solely focusing on Glasgow, he explores the scheme in Wyndford, speaking to young members of local gangs before travelling to Glencoe to meet a man who, like himself, managed to turn his life around and leave gangs behind for good.
Street Gangs airs tonight at 10pm on BBC Scotland or you can watch all three episodes now on BBC iPlayer.
