Transport Scotland’s operating company BEAR Scotland will carry out the project over six nights.

Overnight work to clean the roof and certify the fall system on the footbridge over the M8 at Harthill Services are set to begin later this month.

The eastbound M8 will then be closed at Junction 5 Shotts on the nights of October 30 and 31 as well as November 1, again between 9pm and 5am. Chris Tracey, BEAR Scotland’s South East Unit Bridges Manager, said: “For safety it’s going to be necessary to close the M8 in one direction at a time while we carry out maintenance work on the footbridge over the carriageway.
