Fishing line poses a particular risk for birds and animals, as it is often clear, making it hard to see

It will take up to 600 years for your typical fishing line to break down in the environment, and with more people taking up the sport of angling, there is a growing need to keep our waterways clean.

So far in the Southern Interior, there are just two—both in the Shuswap—but more are being added and can be found on this map. “We are very excited to partner with the Freshwater Fisheries Society of BC and expand this program through their networks and expand awareness of the importance of keeping fishing line out of the environment,” says Steve Loney, community relations, Clear Your Gear.
