A former NBA agent who represented former Houston Rockets players was arrested in Katy last week, accused of defrauding players to pay for luxuries including a koi pond, cryptocurrency and a piano.
after an indictment from the Southern District of New York was unsealed the same day.
The former agent is also accused of spending $238,000 of two of his clients' monies to pay for the construction of athletic training facilities in the backyard of his home. To hide the fraudulent purchase, he donated nearly $500,000 of the two clients' monies to a basketball-related nonprofit whose mission is to"teach leadership and life skills to youth from all backgrounds," court documents show.
A former professional basketball player who Briscoe previously represented in 2017 was allegedly paid $235,000 by the agent to settle a loan dispute. Unbeknownst to the previous client, Briscoe convinced one of his current clients to write a $250,000 check for the owed money by claiming the funds were for attorney services, court records show.
Briscoe is also accused of deceiving a fifth athlete, who he represented in late 2019 and early 2020, by lying to him and claiming the $7 million the player contributed would be for the indirect purchase of a professional basketball team. The client had to go through a company to buy the team because the league he played for did not allow current players to purchase teams.
